“Doubt and Deception: How Disinformation Impacts Equity and Erodes Public Health—A Case Study on Menthol Cigarette Bans”

Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to attend the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences-based Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Learning Group for a meeting today (May 15) from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The group shares and discusses articles and current events, along with personal and professional experiences relevant to diversity, equity and inclusion in research, and share their personal and professional experiences related to these topics.

This group is a safe space for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge and skills related to diversity, equity and inclusion and is for people who are both new to these topics in research and those who have been working in this space already.

The topic of today’s session is “Doubt and Deception: How Disinformation Impacts Equity and Erodes Public Health—A Case Study on Menthol Cigarette Bans.”

Stephanie Pike-Moore, a sociobehavioral epidemiologist, research scientist and adjunct professor in the department, will lead the group. Pike-Moore will share a tool that individuals can use to see how susceptible they might be to misinformation.

As participants work through the tool, they’re encouraged to meditate on the lasting effects that misinformation can have on public health and trust.

Email Rebecca Miller at rdm124@case.edu to be added to the calendar invite and receive the zoom link.
